Charlotte borrowed this from another little girl at the farmer’s market last weekend. We were sitting on the grass watching the music and she entertained herself for awhile. She was pretty mad when we had to get up and go home.

You can see that the grass is really brown–it has been incredibly hot here for weeks.

Charlotte only knows one color, so it’s really hit or miss when she gets it right.

baby dolly

The other little girl in our nanny share has a doll stroller, and it’s Charlotte’s favorite toy at their house. I got her one a few days ago and she has hardly looked at another toy since. She is really into her doll lately (we borrowed the name “Baby Dolly” from my cousin’s favorite doll) and loves to push her around the house and for walks around Roslindale. Charlotte just calls her “baby” though. She also likes to put her Elmo doll in the stroller and take him for walks. Today she tried to change Baby Dolly’s diaper and fed her yogurt and milk. (Baby Dolly really needs a bath.)

the fourth

We spent the Fourth of July visiting my friend Katie in NJ. We took the train to Philadelphia and Charlotte had fun running around Rittenhouse Square (which is where we took these pictures).

We also took Charlotte to her first parade.

flowers

Charlotte and I went for a nice walk in the Arboretum today. Charlotte walked most of the way home and stopped to pick up rocks, sticks, acorns, etc. And she stopped to look at dogs that walked by and said “woof woof,” and then when we got to the street she stopped at every garden we passed to say “flower!” and smell them all. That is one of her latest words. She also says “rock,” “water,” “Elmo,” “purple,” and “ant.” Other words that she tries to say, but are harder to understand, are “pinecone,” “cucumber,” and “ambulance.” Whenever she sees a picture of a baby, or something small — like the smallest acorn or rock — she says “baby!”

charlotte’s little house

We made Charlotte a little house out of a diaper box. We’ve since decorated it with some stickers and a few pictures cut out of catalogs. Charlotte directed me to put the lamp picture on the inside, and the rug picture on the floor. And we put some streamers on it for Brian’s birthday last week.
